Design Color Palette

FIRE & ICE
Currently I am loving the cool grey hues and the warm red tones
in these spaces. This color combination is a modern pairing
that is simply divine. These colors are an unexpected coupling that
can make a space feel cool and fiesty.
Bright Red accessories and downplayed bright
white walls and grey-taupe punches
bring this boudair into a contemporary light.
I literally want to crawl into this space and make it mine. The
artwork is traditional landscape meets modern brights. The tone on
tone of the grey walls and seating make the space feel larger, while
the pops of red and orange make the space feel fun and liveable.
Rich Red wood tones in the floor create contrast against the
Glossy cool glass mosaics and White surfaces
scattered throught this bath space. Painting the ceiling a medium
Grey tone creates depth and accentuates the beautiful
details of this space.

Greener Pastures...

Oh Green ... How I love thee
In honor of Saint Patricks Day why not celebrate the color green in
all its saturations. Green in some tones is now considered a new
neutral all though many of the scenes below are a lime or citron which touch
on the brighter side of color.
How fabulous is this bedroom space. Dividing the sleep area from the
work area using lrhe printed curtains. Using the floor to ceiling window as
almost a piece of artwork. And that great pea green accented
with unexpected deep orange accessories.
How incredibly sheik are these floating vanitys in espresso
with lime green sculpted glass tops? What a striking an
complimentary combination.
Green bubble tile. Need I say more? Contemporary, fun, colorful,
a perfect accent to these medium maple slab door cabinets
with modern brushed nickel hardware.
Slate blue and Citron have such a harmonious feel in the boudoir.
This bedroom is breezy, cozy, and contemporary.
Give me a sage green kitchen and I will love you forever. This kitchen
with all its green molding and trim pieces is a work of art. An eclectic
cottage style kitchen with all the fixings of a masterpiece.

Kitchen Reno: Traditional w/ a Twist

Modern Meets Classic....
The glass and marble mini mosaic really ties together
all the color elements that the main tile, accent
tile, granite, and cabinets bring to the table. The sleek
stainless hood is a moderntouch to help tie our
two contrasting styles together.
Roping details and cherry stain add to the traditional roots
of this kitchen as well as add warmth. Copper accents play
up the cherry tones through out the space.
The Garden Window is a great element in this kitchen,
bringing in natural light and personality. The pendant light
above the sink is an unexpected detail that again ties
into the copper and cherry colors present in the space.

Make A Splash!...

Looking to Amp up the cool factor in your kitchen, had a
little color or shine with a glass backsplash. The large lime glass tile used below
echo the lemon paint color and modern cabinet door style. Adding
a fun and young look to this already contemporary kitchen.
The Light and Clean kitchen below has both traditional and
contemporary details that compliment one another. The stone
backsplash here is an assortmant of random horizontal marble tiles. The
stainless steel shelving plays off the horizontal theme and helps make
the space look wider and more open.
The last backsplash is done using recycled multi colored glass.
Recycled glass is usually less expensive then other thicker glass
tile because of its imperfections. The warm tones in this glass mosaic help tie
the cabinets and countertop together making this a cohesive ensemble.
One of my favorite places to find great tile is none other than
my alma matter The Tile Shop. They have great displays and
sales people that can help you create a tile masterpiece.

Bath Renovation Simplified

Light Wallet....Easy Updates that are Easy on Cost

When Under taking a bathroom renovation people can sometimes get in over there head. When renovating a bathroom, a project can quickly become a huge expense. There are however ways to spend little money and get major effect.
Bathrooms can be easily updated by adding a fresh coat of paint, or new Hardware. It's important to remember Contemporary design is
most commonly acheived by being a Minimalist.  The high contrast of the brown-metallic tile used sparingly in this bath against the bright white paint is the perfect example of modern execution and minimalist aesthetic.
Accessories are inexpensive way to give your Bathroom a new look. New towels and pops of color throughout the bath can make a dull bathroom look renewed. But it is important to remember 'Less is more', accessories only work when used in moderation. Too many accessories can make a space  seem  cluttered and messy.  Contemporary design should be clean and not over thought. The bright pink pop of the Shower curtain in the photo to the left brings life to the cold light grey tile and the abstract pattern adds a fun, young element to the space. While the glass block makes the space feel larger, brighter, and open. Color & light are key to a perfect design.
Another simple but more costly route of upgrading your bath is replacing the vanity. There are often cabinet remnants at local cabinet vendors that they will sell for very little. You can get creative with your vanity as well , using a simple surface and adding a vessel sink can instantly add flair to your bathroom space. Most commonly I put vessel sinks in powder or guest baths so that they are more like show piece for your visitors. The citron porcelain vessel to the right gives an unexpected pop to this do-it yourself shabby-chic vanity. Don't be afraid to play with your design, and try out ideas, have fun with it, and                 make it your own.
